After we coordinate the pickup, you can usually place approved boxes on your porch or another accessible spot and let us handle the rest.
Who We Are
CNY Book Rescue helps Central New York residents clear out unwanted books with free pickup. Collections can range from a few boxes to larger collections and home libraries, whether you're making space, moving, downsizing, handling an estate, or clearing out a home.
Books are our primary focus. We can also consider CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, and video games as part of a pickup.
CNY Book Rescue works exclusively with donated books and media. We do not purchase books or collections or provide monetary compensation.
CNY Book Rescue is an independently operated commercial business, not a nonprofit or tax-exempt charitable organization.

Our goal is to give unwanted books an opportunity to get back into circulation and potentially reach new readers. Each book is different, so we cannot promise a particular destination or outcome for every item we collect.
How it works

What we do with the books
"Giving Books a Second Life" is more than a tagline. After pickup, books are sorted and processed based on their condition and where they have the best opportunity to be used again. Our goal is to rehome books — getting usable books off shelves and back into people's hands where they can be read, shared, and enjoyed again.
Some usable books are resold, giving them an opportunity to reach another reader and continue their story.
Some usable books are donated or passed along where others can enjoy them. CNY Book Rescue has donated books to retirement homes in the past, and other books may go to organizations such as the Salvation Army.
Books in poor condition that are no longer suitable for continued use are responsibly recycled.
Not every book follows the same path, and a particular outcome cannot be guaranteed for every item. The goal is to keep as many usable books as possible in circulation so they can be read, shared, and rediscovered.
For people deciding what to do with old books, pickup can be a practical alternative to throwing away or recycling books that may still have useful life.
CNY Book Rescue does not collect books for the purpose of feeding or training AI systems.
