A manageable next step

Let the books be one less thing to move.

We work with property owners, family members, estate representatives, and other authorized contacts to arrange book pickup from homes throughout Central New York.

Help with shelves, boxes, and home libraries

An estate book cleanout can involve much more than a few cartons. Books may fill wall-to-wall shelves, basements, spare rooms, offices, garages, or several areas of a home. Because books are dense and heavy, removing them can take significant time even when the rest of the property is nearly empty.

CNY Book Rescue accepts requests for collections of many sizes. Standard pickups in our normal service area are free, whether the books come from an estate, a downsizing project, or an upcoming move. Exceptionally large requests that require unusual travel, equipment rentals, or additional labor are discussed before scheduling, and any cost-recovery arrangement must be agreed upon in advance.

We serve Central New York from Herkimer County to Cayuga County, including Syracuse, Utica, Rome, Auburn, Oneida, Herkimer, Liverpool, and nearby towns.

Information that helps us plan

Before requesting pickup, estimate the number of boxes or shelves and note where the books are located. Tell us whether stairs, narrow hallways, limited parking, or a firm property deadline may affect access. Photos are not required by the form, but a clear written description helps us understand the collection and determine the next step.

The request must come from someone who owns the books or has authority to provide them. CNY Book Rescue accepts donated books and media only; we do not appraise, purchase, or provide monetary compensation for collections.

After collection, materials are sorted. Depending on condition, demand, and suitability, some books may be resold, others may be donated or passed along, and books no longer usable may be responsibly recycled. No destination is guaranteed for an individual title, but the sorting process aims to keep useful books in circulation where practical.
